Question :

Identify and describe two specific instances of business intelligence that (to the best of your current knowledge) your organization does not currently have, but should aggressively pursue obtaining or creating within the next 2 – 6 months. In the space below: describe the intelligence you think you need to pursue, tell me what data the intelligence should be based upon, tell me how that data could be collected, tell me how the raw data should be turned into intelligence (I don’t need algorithms or specific formulas- just give me a high-level description of the process). Next, tell me how that intelligence can be used- what decisions would that intelligence facilitate? Give me a rough estimate of how much this intelligence would cost to obtain/create, and also, the value of this intelligence to your organization.

Instructions: Please write your answers in the format of a memo directed at your immediate supervisor- this of this as a proposal you will make to your boss, in the hope that your boss will get “on board” and want to champion your idea to his or her boss.

Your essay should be a maximum of 2 pages of writing, with 2 extra pages of appendices allowed for tables, charts, etc. if you so require.

Your memo should be the last 2-4 pages of this document.

The discrete cosine transform (DCT) represents an image as a sum of sinusoids of varying magnitudes and frequencies. The functions of DCT computes the two-dimensional DCT of an image. The DCT has the property that, for a typical image, most of the visually significant information about the image is concentrated in just a few coefficients of the DCT. For this reason, the DCT is often used in image compression applications i) Write a Matlab Program to obtain low bit rate block and compressed image quality using Discrete cosine transform (DCT) coding ii) Detail each steps of compression and decompression and reduce the size to 8x8 non-overlapping blocks with DCT quantized coefficients for blocking artifacts by Matlab program. iii) Highlight the results of reduced artifacts and validate the quality using PSNR value. Justify the result

What is the best smart door lock for an offices at a company? Smart card based door lock system or fingerprint based door lock system ? ( only one system should be select not both)

which one is more secure than other (when a person take excuse for a long time and should somebody do her/his work until come back .. so, in this case the fingerprint is feasible or smart card and why ? I need the Advantage and Disadvantage for each type

For the following exercise, draw a Logical Ladder to solve the automation problem. After you press push button, you want Lights/LEDs behave as follows:

a. LED 1 will turn on, and stay on until LED 3 turns on

b. LED 2 will turn on only for 5 seconds

c. LED 3 will turn on after 8 seconds and stay on only for 1 second.

1) Class Reviews

If you sum up light transmission, absorption and scattering do you get unity (1)? If yes why, if not what is missing?

In your owns words describe the difference between phase and group velocity

From Maxwell’s equations derive the wave equation. State explicitly any assumption you

made.

How is the beating length defined of a directional coupler. Explain in your own words why a

symmetric coupler is needed to fully switch a signal from a cross-to-bar output and a

asymmetric one cannot be used?

2) Laser Analysis

a) Calculate the threshold gain of a double heterostructure (DH) edge emitting laser with an intrinsic loss a?i = 20 cm-1. Assume an overlap factor of G? = 20%. The laser is 100 um long, and the gain medium’s index refractive index is comparable to that of Silicon. Assume both facets have an equal reflection of R = 40% and outside is air.

b) Find the threshold carrier concentration N for an optical gain of g(N) = a(N-Ntr), where a = 1500 cm-1, and Ntr = 1016cm-3.

3) Modulator

Draw the bands for a Quantum Confined Stark effect. How does the optical signal modulation created?

State the equation for a phase shift-based modulator. A figure of merit (FOM) is to create a small Vp?L, meaning a small device length and low voltage to get to a p?phase shift. Name 3 design options to improve (reduce) this FOM.

4) Photodetector

In a PN junction where is light absorbed? Meaning a) in the flat-region on the p-side, or b) on the flat region on the n-side, c) neither of those, but in the deleted region where the bands bend?

Use your answer from before to explain why a P-i-N photodetector is a ‘better’ photodetector than a PN junction.

Calculate the photo-current for a detector with an quantum efficiency of 90%, a gain of 100, a responsivity of 0.7 A/W receiving an input power of 5mW
