Before knowing about cultural
knowledge we should first gain some insight about knowledge (what
is knowledge ?). Knowledge is knowing some fact about something.
This could be a person, thing, phenomenon or event. When we gain
knowledge about something or someone, we become familiar to that
thing. After gaining knowledge we have some awareness about the
thing. We can gain knowledge with the use of many sources, these
can be education, enquiry, training or, practice and experience. In
one sentence we can define knowledge as what is learned. A human
being gain knowledge about many things throughout his or her life.
For example, in our childhood we gain knowledge about alphabet,
some basic mathematical concepts and simple language.
After gaining some insight about
knowledge we can know about cultural knowledge. In a simple
language we can say that knowledge about a culture is cultural
knowledge. Culture has some beliefs, values, norms, customs, way of
living, specific language, traditions. By cultural knowledge we
gain knowledge about these aspects of culture. These cultural
factors flow from one generation to other.
A question arises here that when a group passes Cultural knowledge
to each other through oration is less civilized or not. This
question is very tough to answer because criteria of being
civilized group are different for people. Knowledge about any
culture passes by oration as well as writing. We can't justify any
group by this criterion. Written facts are more trustworthy so, we
can rely more on written facts about cultural knowledge.
Civilization means a developed society which has its own highly developed culture and way of living. A civilized person knows how to behave politely in any particular situation. He knows how to eat, how to talk, how to adjust in a complex situation. A civilized society make its individual civilized. Different culture has its own way of living. In one culture one thing is acceptable while in other it is completely unacceptable.
