2. Am average individual requires an average of 0.8 per pound per day and endurance athelete requires 1.2 to 1.4 grams of proteins. This required amount of protein is readily suppilied by the food consumpsion. The excess protein suppilied through the amino acid supplements can cause dehydration because it need more water to rid the body of the byproducts of protein metabolism. Along with this the amino acid supplements can cause weight gain, amino acid imbalance, altered the kidney functions because kidney should work hard to excrete the protein and causes osteoporosis( low bone density ). This is the reason amino acid suppilements are not recommended to athelets.
