Below are the contradictions faced by an effective project manager -
1. Focus on the big picture while getting hands dirty - It is important that the project manager focuses on the big picture i.e. at strategic level of execution of the project by managing deliverables, resoures, budget and time etc. At the same time, the manager needs to set an example for the team by involving in key tasks, critical activities and issues wherever necessary.
2. Innovate while maintaining stability - The manager needs to encourage innovative ways of accomplishing the tasks and finding new outcomes while ensuring that the resources focus on the deliverables without running over budget or time, Innovation needs to be balanced with stability effectively.
3. Avoid playing favorites but identify and safeguard key contributors - A project manager needs to take a neutral view in supporting, evaluating and managing the resources. The manager should avoid favoritism in the project while ensuring that the good performers are rewarded and encouraged wherever required.
