Summarize how infection is cleared from the body of a patient who has been prescribed antibiotics that are bacteriostatic.
INFECTION CLEARANCE BY BACTERIOSTATIC ANTIBIOTIC
Bacteriostatic antibiotics function against bacteria by arresting there growth and further replication of bacteria and this is achieved by obstructing metabolic mechanism of bacteria (protein synthesis,DNA replication).During this time patients immune system helps in fighting against the existing bacteria. As patient is administered with a bacteriostatic antibiotic it will absorb in blood stream in a similar way like minerals and vitamins do and reaches the target area where bacterial pathogenic mechanism is arrested and prevent further growth, by this time immune system will start to fight against the organism and kill them. This cause reduction in infection but it is necessary to take prescribed course of antibiotics as they may be reversible if not completely acted before immune system scavenged organisms. |
The bacteriostatic antibiotics include tetracycline,
clindamycin , azithromycin spectinomycin, macrolides, sulfonamides,
among many others. |
