An element, X has the mass number 46. There are six more neutrons than protons in this element.
Identify the element X.
Find the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons in it.
How will the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons change when this element is ionized to X2+?
Mass number (A) of element X = 46
Number of neutron (n) = Number of proton (p) + 6
Z is atomic number and we know
Z = p and
p = number of electron (e) {for neutral atom}
We know A = Z + n
So 46 = p + (p + 6)
p = 20 so Z = 20
1) since atomic number of element is 20, the element is Calcium (Ca).
2) p = 20, n = 20 + 6 = 26 and e = 20
3) element X ionized to X2+ means 2 electron removed from X. So number of electron changes from 20 to 18 means change of 2 electron occurs. But there is no change in number of proton and neutron.
