Solutions

Expert Solution

1) Determine the number of protons, neutrons and electron for the element Sodium. The mass number for the isotope of this element is 25. You must show your work for each determination:

Solution :- mass number = 25

Atomic number of the sodium is 11

Atomic number is nothing but the number of protons so number of protons = 11

Mass number is the sun of number of protons + number of neutrons

Therefore

Numbere of neutrons = mass number - number of protons

                                 = 25 – 11

                                = 14

Number of electrons are same as number of protons

So electrons = 11

So in the sodium atom

Protons = 11

Electrons = 11

Neutrons = 14

2) Diamond has a density of 3.52 g/mL. What is the volume in mL of a diamond with a mass of 4.6 g?

Solution :-

Density = mass /volume

Volume = mass / density

              = 4.6 g / 3.52 g per ml

             = 1.31 ml

So the volume is 1.31 ml
