How can employees learn through interaction? Are some types of interaction best for learning in some situations but not others? Explain.
Employees learn through interaction in three ways including learner-content, learner-instructor, and learner-learner. Learner-content provides the trainee with interacting with the training content. This includes reading text, listening to modules, and performing activities. Learner-instructor implies interaction between trainee and the instructor. With the instructor providing the interaction, they can demonstrate the training content. Lastly, interacting through learner-learner provides interaction between other learners without an instructor. This helps employees share experience and practice communication skills. A job that requires extensive customer interaction will need training that provides interpersonal skills and hands on experience to be able to handle new situations. I believe with this situation, learner-learner interaction applies the best training.
How can the work environment inhibit learning and transfer of training? Explain. In your opinion, what work environment characteristics have the largest influence on transfer of training? Justify your answer.
There are many ways that the work environment can inhibit learning and transfer of training. Not having proper technology in a work site to gain resources causes obstacles in the work environment. This is called lapse. Lapse implies that employees are not provided with the effective capabilities prior to training and this causes old habits to resurface. Other obstacles include lack of support and time pressure in the work environment. I believe the characteristic that has the greatest influence is providing feedback consequences. By ensuring this feedback, both the manager and employee will notice their training in use. The manager can then provide proper feedback to ensure positive behavior from the employee.
