QUESTION 1 Provide a detailed explanation with examples of the market/task environment of the organization you selected.
ANSWER 1: My organization is in the business of Building Management Solution (BMS). We are serving mainly to North America. Please go through below points for market environment of my organization,
· Technological developments: The technical developments are moderate and there are very few innovation happened in last 3 years. There are very small amount of patents has been registered.
· Change in Government regulations: California and Texas Government has announced some basic requirement for fire alarm and protection system which are not having significant impact on business. Only the check points have been increased.
· Business Growth: Major IT player like Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Twitter and launching new project which helping us to grow in our all business units (Manufacturing of BMS products, Design of BMS system and installation of BMS system). Apart for IT sector, supply chain and Healthcare sectors are also aggressively launching new projects.
· Tax implications: No major changes are identified.
· America’s GDP: The GDP (Gross Domestic Product) growth is consistent (15%) and we are contributing well. Also our sales growth is stable.
· Resource availability: We are able to get the desired skills and resources in every state of America. This is because America is maintaining good quality of education and training.
QUESTION 2 Identify and detail the activities and initiatives of the following functional areas of management in the organization you chose.
ANSWER 2: My organization is implementing “High Performance Culture (HPC)” across the all business units and supporting departments. All below departments are covered in this implementation.
§ The Human Resources Function
· The HR department has launched the new “Reward and Recognitions (R&R)” policies with more quarterly and merit awards. They have touched on every segment and trying to cover almost all categories (unit) of business. They also launched the small win award (badges) for small appreciations. Employee are happy seeing this improvements.
§ The Marketing Function
· We have clubbed many technology units to one unit (for example, Seles team for HVAC system are now collaborating sales system of security system). With this we are able to get the more business as costumer need less point of contact for many works.
§ Purchasing Function
· We started to develop the vendors to get quality products in optimized price. We just developed one vendor for controls (PLC) at different location of America.
§ Operations function
· Under HPC, we are trying to reduce the lead time of job completion. We are also focusing on JIT (Just in Time) technology which is helping us to respond to costumer ASAP. Also, we are rotating our resource in every business unit to help them to understand the product lines.
QUESTION 3 Provide a detailed discussion of FIVE (5) management challenges faced by the selected organization.
ANSWER 3:
1. Getting work done from other countries: We are taking help from India for our building solutions. The time zone difference is main issue we are facing.
2. Costumer’s change order: Costumers (mainly IT sectors) are changing design frequently and asking us to submit the solution quickly. This is creating quality issues for us.
3. Process (Internal Quality checks): This is happening basically in design and estimate units. Because of non-standard jobs, we are not able to fix our checklist.
4. Syncing of all management tools: We are having different kind of tools for different purposes. The tools are Sharepoint for record keeping, SFDC for CRM, Employee attendance tools. We are having functional requirement to sync all these but because of software limitations, we are suffering to do so.
5. Trainings to learn different product and technology: Because of continues delivery load, we are facing issue to spare time to learn the new product and technologies.
