In 200 words what is the meaning of a good death? (use IOM good death guideline)
GOOD DEATH
A good death is one that is unavoidable and which does not make pressure on family, patient as well as to care givers
Good death is one that provides relief from all worldly problems and becoming free without proving High Pressure to the , patient, family as well as to the society
A good death can be achieved by the combination of effort of family, patient as well as health care workers
Patient can stay cooperative in all the activities that are possible and help the family and health care workers achieve their target. It is possible if the patient is oriented.
The family can bring up consent on the death of patient and order not to resuscitate the patient.
For example if a patient is having stage 4 cancer and it is 100% sure that she will die in few days then we can stop providing medication that induce vomiting and pain in patients. Then only pain medication should be given according to WHO pain ladder and this will give comfort to patient and get a good death.
Health care providers can avoid parenteral medication and provide enterally medication to avoid pain. Maximum rest and care can be given to the patient.
Make sure patient gets spiritual and emotional happiness
All these factors combined can give a good death to the patient
