What is "dowry death"? describe in 400 words
Dowry death is the most pathetic death of women. Dowry death refers to death of the women by the tortures and humiliations by their husband and husband’s family. Dowry death is increasing day by day. According to the statistical analysis, Dowry death is highly occurring in some specific countries. such as India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Iran.
According to the analysis, India is highest in numbers of dowry death. Around 8,391 women are dying in every year by this traumatic death. They either attempting suicide or murdered by their husbands.
In Dowry system, a daughter needs to be married in a specific age and parents need to give a high amount of moneys and jewelries to their son in law. This is a trend of the culture in some specific countries. Sometimes parents make a promise that they will give dowry after marriage but when they are unable to keep the promise, the married women faces a lot of tortures and humiliation by her husband and husband’s family.
Reasons of Dowry death
According to statistical evidence, dowry death can be done in different types such as burning, Eve teasing, acid burning and sometimes brides decided to commit suicide for getting relief from the tortures and harassment.
Dowry death is considered as the Violence against women. Government needs to take some effective steps against this dowry system.
Dowry system should be prohibited in all the countries. The India’s government had taken a step in 1961. Dowry Prohibition Act was passed in 1961. In this act, the giving or taking dowry is a punishable crime. After that in 1983 Dowry offence is added in the section of criminal law 498 A.
According to the significant evidence, most number of married women are getting death in their young age just for this painful system.
