Health communication intervention means the usage of both written and oral communication methods to create awareness among the public to adopt healthy behaviors. Health communication interventions help society to improve their overall health and wellbeing. In fact, health communication makes society health literate.

Health communication intervention was very effective in disseminating antitobacco messages among vulnerable or underserved groups in the society, as they are the section affected the most through the usage of tobacco products. The health communication interventions helped the society to change its perspective toward the usage of tobacco products especially among the vulnerable sections such as racial and ethnic minorities, low-income families, and elderly, etc."Spit It Out" is an anti-smokeless tobacco program in West Virginia and was one of the many successful health communication interventions against tobacco. Many billboards were installed in different parts of the state as part of the "Spit It Out" campaign, also aired radio advertisements dealing with the negative effects of tobacco products, especially the smokeless tobacco. Health workers associated with local religious institutions to reach out the campaign to the vulnerable sections.
