Basically a leader is someone whom you choose to follow to go to a place where you wouldn't go by yourself, he should posses qualities that drive you to be be doing what you ought to be doing!
As per the Hersey- blanchard Situational Leadership Model there is no single form of leadership that is better than the others. leaders should change their leadership as per the situation and the requirement of the Organizational goals. This model shows that leaders should be task as well as people oriented to successfully achieve the goals prescribed by the management as it is kind of a dynamic model of leadership than static. The leaders should choose the type of leadership based on the maturity of followers, like if a team is having poor maturity then the leader should allocate and monitor the progress in a very detailed way on the other hand if the team is highly matured then the leader should monitor minimal.
Hersey- blanchard came up with four different type of leadership styles based on the scenarios basically leaders face in a typical work environment those are as follows
1. Telling- In this he leaders define the tasks and roles needed to do the job also he tells the followers what, where, how and when to do the tasks. It is used with low maturity followers.
2. Selling- In this the leaders try to sell his idea in a persuasive manner. It is used with moderate followers who have the ability but unwilling to do their jobs.
3. Participating- In this the leader and followers shares in decisions about how best to complete a high quality job. It is used with moderate followers who are not experienced/ confident enough to do the jobs by themselves.
4. Delegating- IN this the leader provides little specific, close direction or personal support to his followers. It is used with high maturity followers.
