How is the life of a sessile biofilm cell different than the same cell when it is planktonic - relative to nutrients, attachment, resistance to antimicrobial conditions, both physical and chemical?
Microorganisms (Microbes) is have ability to come together is different forms.cling to surfaces and take in share available nutrients.
They are generally constitute masses of microbes and their extracellular product that attach to with living factor and non living factor it is Biofilm.
Some example : algae on the walls of swiming pool.
Biofilms form if microbes adhere to a particular surface which contain of moist and organic substances matter.
The microbes to attach is the bacteria.after the attachment they secrete glcocalyx and again attach the bacteria to each other.
The biofilms has some layer and contain different microbes and biofilms represent resistance because of they resist antibiotics and disinfectants.when biofilms colonize their structure such as teeth, medical catheters, hip replacement etc .
The strain of E.coli responsible to gastrointestinal diseases and adhere to specific kind of cell in intestine.
Staphylococcus aureus is a bacterium responsible to skin disease .the bacterium bind to skin and resemble Viral attachment.
