proximal upper extremities what are they? how would
you define them in non medical terms?
In non medical terms, the proximal upper extremities can be understood as the region in the upper portion of the body which extends from the proximal or the starting point.
Now coming back to the medical terms and definitions, here in this context - proximal upper extremities is talking about the upper limb which extends from the deltoid region. It includes shoulder girdles (composed of clavicle and scapula), shoulder joint - also known as glenohumeral joint, arms, wrist, hand, innervation and vasculature.
Shoulder girdles - sternoclavicular joint is the only joint in the upper limb which directly articulate with the trunk and connects upper limb to the axial skeleton.
Shoulder joint - between head of the humerus and glenoid cavity of the scapula, there is ball and socket joint.
Arm - also known as brachium and extends from humerus to elbow.
Wrist - composed of carpals.
Hand - composed of metacarpals and phalanges.
