what are some upper extremities only BONES and JOINT found in the appendicular skeleton in the upper extremity.

Solutions

Expert Solution

There are two types of bones in appendicular skeleton , they are upper extremity (64 bones ) and lower extremity ( 62 bones .)

10 shoulder and arm bones on each side include

  • clavicle
  • scapula
  • humerus
  • radius
  • ulna

16 wrist bones on each side include

  • caphoid
  • lunate
  • triquetrum
  • pisiform
  • trapezium
  • trapezoid
  • capitate
  • hamate

38 Hand bones on each side include :-

  • 10 metacarpal bones
  • 28 phalanges (finger bones )

Joints in the upper extremity are :-

Acromioclavicular joint

This joint is formed by acromion process of scapula and clavicula

Sternoclavicular joint

Joint formed by sternum and clavicle

Shoulder joint

A joint formed by scapula and humerus .

Ball and socket type of joint

Elbow joint

A joint formed by humerus , radius and ulna.

Radio ulnar joint

There are superior and inferior radioulnar joint .

A joint formed between radius and ulna bone.

Wrist joint

A joint formed between  radius and the articulating surface of the scaphoid, lunate, and triquetral bones.

proximal and distal rows of carpal bones articulate with each other to form the

Midcarpal joint

A joint formed between proximal and distal rows of carpal bones

Carpometacarpal joint

A joint a formed in the hand between carpal and metacarpal bone.

metacarpophalangeal joint

A joint formed between each metacarpal bone with the proximal phalanx bone of the thumb.

Interphalngeal joint

A joint formed between phalanges
