Using the Clampitt et al (2000) model identify strategies for effective communication. Explain
Clampitt et al (2000) presented 5 basic strategies for implementing the effective communication in the organisation. These 5 basic strategies helped the organisation to understand its employees better and bring a change which is essential in the communication process:
1. Spray and Pray: The first strategy for communication talks about the for providing equal access to the communication and information to everyone. This strategy says that by providing everyone equal amount of information, it means more communication which would then turn into effective decision making too. By providing access to information, people will develop the decision making skills of what is important to them and what js not which is achieved by this strategy.
2. Tell and Sell: The next strategy talks about communicating only the limit amount of information which the managers have been provided it and is related to the direct core competencies of the change going to take place. In this approach, the simple fundamental of the marketing is used. They first tell the employees about the change that is going to happen, and then second they are going to convince or sell them the change. By selling them the benefits, the advantages and the effects of the change, they are selling the concept of the change.
3. Underscore and Explore: More or less like the *tell and sell* approach, managers again in this strategy focuses on the important key issues which are directly related to the change but in this strategy, the employees are given the freedom to either accept or not this change. The employees accepting this change are given more growth and development opportunities as they are exploring themselves with the new change concepts.
4. Identify and reply: Unlike the three approaches said above, this strategy talks about identifying the reasons why people are resisting change and all the problems that are being caused by the communications and the barriers associated. In this strategy, the firm effectively analyse, identify and then reply with a corrective solution to the problems in the organisation.
5. Withold and uphold: At last, in withold and uphold strategy, the firm uphold the information until it is necessary. When rumours started arising, in this communication the firm holds the communication and the relevant information required because if spread out could cause problems. Thus, only the relevant information is shared until the head authoritites gives the command of sharing the next decision.
