Transmission speed of Nerve A: 19 m/sec. Transmission speed of Nerve B: 45 m/sec.
Which one is myelinated? explain why.
Ans. MYELINATED is 45 m/ sec.( Peripheral nerve ) median sensory
19m/sec. ( Intrafusal muscle fibres) -----> THIN MYELIN,, free nerve ending of touch and pressure Nociceptors of neospinothalamic tract cold thermoreceptor .
By jumping from node to node , the impulse can travel much more quickly( 120m/s) .myelinated axons transmit action potential faster than Unmyelinated axon.
Majorities of normal individual fall with in defined ranges : Age, sex, temperature, height, medical conditions etc.
By acting as an electrical insulator ,mylein greatly speeds up action potential conduction . Normal impulse in peripheral nerve of legs travel at 40-45 m/sec.
Myelinated nerve fibre is very fast compared to speed of blood flow, with some myelinated neurons conducting at speed up to 120 m/ sec. ( 432km/h or 275 mph).
