List and describe the steps involved in laying the foundation for a quality culture.

Ten measures to lay the foundation of a quality culture in an organization are generally understood. The following steps are

  1. Understanding: The organisation, staff and other stakeholders must first understand what a culture of quality is and why it is necessary.
  2. Evaluation: The next step is to consider the company's present position and its purpose.
  3. Planning: A thorough scheduling of the achievement of the goals of creating a quality culture must be done prior to laying the foundations.
  4. Setting of expectations: As changes in the company affect various other processes and practices, workers must be mindful of future adjustments and expectations.
  5. Model creation – The right examples should be provided to build an aspirational situation among workers as models of quality within the organization.
  6. Orientation: The idea of quality culture must be integrated into a thought process from the outset when a new employee enters, so as to guide cultural transition in the longer term.
  7. Mentoring: One of the main steps in the development of a quality culture is to promote role models and help struggling workers develop their productivity.
  8. Training: The business needs qualitative preparation and the importance of quality at all organizational levels to be clarified.
  9. Monitoring: Once these steps are taken, the company must be proactive to monitor labor productivity to assess the effects of cultural change.
  10. Maintenance: Ultimately, the company will strive to establish a strong base for a community and reinforce this time and again.

Explain why the implementation of total quality requires cultural change?

To be able to work with total quality management, the company's corporate culture must be in line with total quality management. If not, it is recommended that the introduction of complete quality control be prevented or postponed until the appropriate conditions that occur. The explanation for this is that the organization's culture is affecting day-to-day performance. That person in the company is also involved in the culture and for total quality management to work the culture needs to understand the TQM and be open to change.
