Observation learning is the learning that occurs through observation of other's behaviour.
There are four basic concepts of observation learning-
Attention- first it is important to focus and attend what is happening around in the world.
Retension/ memory- then it is necessary to remember what was observed.
Imitation- it is the ability to reproduce the same observed act or behaviour.
Motivation- observer only learn any behaviour if they are motivated to do so.
Yes, I believe that violence in television, media, and videogames play important role to promote violent behaviour. Children are very much vulnerable to learn aggression by observing others. Many researches showed and we also observed that level of aggression correlated with spending time in watching aggression on media, television, or videogames.
As I experienced this learning of violence when I was young kid, I used to spend a lot of time playing violent videogames. It impacted me a lot, I used to imagine violence like if somebody says to me anything I will hit on that person's face, I will scream etc. And then this turned into aggression. I usually jumped into fights. This behaviour was observed by my mother and she took my videogame and with time my anger and aggression decreased with time.
Observation learning emphasis on the learning through observation but conditioning theory explains learning occur through process of association between stimulus and stimulus (classical conditioning) or stimulus and response ( operant conditioning).
