Many adults are overwhelmed by the responsibilities involved in caring for infants or toddlers and may unintentionally harm them out of frustration or a lack of understanding. Linking families to resources is critical to supporting children's development and reducing the risk of childhood maltreatment. In this chapter, you will learn to recognize the physical and emotional signs associated with maltreatment, the stressors that can trigger maltreatment, and how to promote children's resilience. As you watch the video, think about the challenges that parents of young children face on a daily basis.

Infants and toddlers experience a high rate of maltreatment because their caregiver unintentionally harm them out of frustrations and family problems.At present time, there are  lot of problems, frustrations in every one's life as life is very busy,there is no time for the parent or caregiver to think about the mental condition of their children, they are spending less time with their children. But all these things doesn't mean that they doesn't love their young ones, obviously they care about them but the only thing is they doesn't understand the psychology of their young ones and the young ones are maltreated.

INFANT OR TODDLERS

  • If the child is unwanted, or failing to fulfil the dreams of parents.
  • If the child is abnormal(birth defects or cognitive disorder).
  • Having special needs or criying continously for no cause.
  • Too much temper tantrums of the toddlers.
  • Poor health condition of the child.

PARENT

  • If the parent or caregiver is maltreated in their young age.
  • Having wrong expectations.
  • Financial problem
  • Alcohol abuse.
  • quarrells between husband and wife, or with anyone of the family members.
  • Any major or minor family issues.
  • Deteriorated health condition of any of the family member.
  • Lack of family support.
  • Poverty, unemployment.
  • Poor educational status.
  • Gender and social inequality.
