Dating is a practice that started in the 1920s and followed the practice of courtship. Current sociological research has focused on college students and the extent to which they are or are not dating. In addition, sociologists have examined the even newer culture of “hooking up” on college campuses.

1.Identify the gendered aspects of dating in the video. In other words, which roles/responsibilities/expectations are associated with men and which are associated with women?
2.Explain how you think dating today is similar and/or different in comparison to the 1950s. Here, I encourage you to think about Activity #2 to help you develop your comments.
3.How about contemporary dating compared to hooking up? How are these two practices similar and/or different? Are contemporary dating and hook up practices gendered? In other words, which roles/responsibilities/expectations, if any, are typically associated with men and which are associated with women?
1. In the video the boy considers a girl to take on a date who
is average looking compared to him and fun loving, who appreciates
him, and talks rather than a girl who is very pretty, who would
make the boy feel inferior or awkward by her constant tantrums or
instead of the second girl who would not talk much and they both
would get bored, A girl is expected to look beautiful on the
date.
Boy ; The boy is expected to ask the girl for the date, in all
humble and smart manner he could do it, and to come home early by
7;30 from the date on Saturday, a boy is expected to be punctual
and on time, also a boy has to think carefully before treating a
women in a particular way, be it making her feel special by giving
her expensive gift or flowers he has to think twice before doing
anything as things can be too fast. It is not important that how
much money a boy is spending which defines the date but the amount
of fun and how much they enjoyed each others company. The goodnight
or the end of the date the boy should tell the girl that he liked
her company and also that he would love to meet her again
soon.
2. Dating today is way different in comparison to dating in the 1950's
The children today do not ask their parents whether they can go
on a date or not, because dating is not that rare in today's time
but a common thing hence they do not feel it is important to ask
the parents.
Asking out a girl is not that difficult as it is shown in the video
of 1950's, a boy does not think that much before asking a girl for
the date. Also, the dates today due to competition amongst the
youngsters have become a more expensive thing as it is not much
valued by the fun but by how luxurious the date was. Everything has
been a bit fast in todays as compared to 1950 where a boy would
think 100 times before kissing a girl but that is not the case
today.
3. Contemporary dating is more or less similar to hookups the
new culture where there are fewer feelings involved and the hook up
is only for the physical intercourse. More logically a hookup can
be called a one night stand, teens have started dating and hookups
before even hitting puberty, they date each other without even
knowing each other ( hookup)
Hookups are gendered - as a girl would be criticized more for
frequent hookups than a boy, there
