There are 2 geologic provinces represented on the map: one generally to the Northeast Appalachians) or the other in the Southwest (Coastal plains) 1. What is range of the ages of rocks in the northeast province (Appalachians); these rocks were the product of what type of plate boundary? a. Convergent b. Divergent c. Transform d. None - Passive Margin 3. What is the range of ages of rocks in the southwest province (Coastal Plain)? 4. These rocks were the product of what type of plate boundary? a. Convergent b. Divergent c. Transform d. None - Passive Margin 5. What type of structure exists in central Tennessee near Nashville? 6. Describe the nature of the contact between the folded Appalachians and the relatively flat overlying coastal plain?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Ans 1.

The northeast appalachians were formed in ordovician period which is about 480 million years ago. Since these were formed of collision which took place to form Pangaea, they were the result of convergent plate boundary and are the folded mountains of those times

Ans 2.

The western coastal plains were formed due to sedimentation and deposition after convergence between Pacific plate and North American plate. These plains the thus formed of convergence after which sedimentation took place. They are new in age and formed just after Rockies perhaps which is about 50 million years old

Ans 3.

It is located in the parts of Appalachian mountains hence you can find structures like valley, creeks,n attraction etc.

Ans 4.

The appalachians were formed about 480 mya when all the continents were connected to form pangea but later they broke apart and hence the rivers originating from appalachians brought lotsbof sediments to form this coastal plain which is called eastern coast now. It was also formed due to regression if sea in the past.

Just (c) from the problem below: 1.11. Let f be a one-to-one smooth map of the real line to itself. One-to-one means that if f(xi) = f(x2), then x1 = x2. A function f is called increasing if x1 〈 x2 implies f(x1 )くf(x2), and decreasing if x1 〈 x2 implies f(x1 ) 〉 f(x2 ) (a) Show that f is increasing for all x or f is decreasing for all:x (b)Show that every orbit {x0, x1, x2…} of f2...

Vectors p1 = [10 2] and p2 = [2 15] are represented in o1x1y1 coordinate frame. Translate o1x1y1 by t = [30 1]T and rotate by 45◦ to obtain o2x2y2. Is the dot product of p1 and p2 same in o1x1y1 and o2x2y2? I believe o1x1y1 and o2x2y2 are the pair of vectors before and after the translation and rotation
