Based on the lecture notes and the Sedivy pg. 33 reading, why is babbling driven by experience (1 paragraph)?
One of the most important characteristics of human beings is their language ability which is very innate except the fact that they need to be exposed to the language. If one is not exposed to the language for a long time since birth, it would become apparent that they won’t learn the language. Infants start the language learning process as early as six months and the best part is that they imitate people around them. They try when someone try new words and get used to the language they are exposed to. This part of an infant’s life in getting enough exposure to the language becomes very important because if there is no one around them to speak, their language development will get delayed as there would be less listening. When someone constantly talk with the infants or even otherwise the infant in an environment where people speak, they learn by babbling and practicing the language they are exposed to. Today most of the kids have television or tablet as their companion and they learn language just by watching and listening those programs.
