I know a person who owns a company and his son is his heir to the company .His son will take over the company as a leader in few years. His son has all the qualities of a good leader .As for eg, he is organised, manages the staff of the company well, manages the project that be deals with efficiently as well as the budget allocated for the project, tries to satisfy customers etc.He is good in dealing with the competitors of the company, identifying good opportunities to develop his company etc . So he is a good leader but a person who is a good leader may not be a good manager.

The differences in managerial skills and leadership skills are vast and comparison of this difference can be made with front line customer service skills and supervising skills. Both the manager and the leader requires different type of skills.Good managers can manage, support and also challenge their employees. They try to manage projects and also try to meet the deadlines. They manage their responsibility with utmost care. and try to get the work done. But they are not good in dealing with competitors and identifying good opportunities to develop the company.

Leaders on the other side are responsible for the growth of the industry, changes brought about in the industry and development of the industry. They look for better opportunities and also look for risks. They try to learn about the competitors, the differences in religion and culture , politics and also trade practices of the company. They think that the world will change always try to find their position in the changing world.

However good managers and good leaders are both important for the company and each try to turn the plan of the company to a real thing. Thus a leader can influence the people under him to achieve a goal ,and the manager tries to manage the organization.Even though both are needed, good leader may not be a good manager and good manager may not be a good leader. A leader has foresightedness but a manager has intelligence. The leader directs the business and the manager tries to plan the business.
