what are seven infectious disease of the GENITOURINARY system and their infectious agent
Disorders of the genitourinary system include a range of disorders from those that are asymptomatic to those that manifest an array of signs and symptoms. Causes for these disorders include congenital anomalies, infectious diseases, trauma and conditions that secondarily involve the urinary structure.
The following are the 7 infectious disease of the genitourinary system:
1. Urinary tract infections
Most urinary infections are caused by bacteria from the intestinal flora. Eschericia coli cuses about 70 % of all infections. Staphylococcus saprophyticus causes abiut 10% of the infections in young women.
2. Urethritis and Epididymitis
Neisseria gonorrhoeae and C trachomatis accounts for most cases of urethritis in men. Chlamydia trachomatis is responsible for 40-5-% of cases of nongonococcal urethristis.
Epididymitis are complications of both N gonorrhoeae and C trachomatis.
3. Vaginitis
More than half of the cases of vaginitis are due to Candida albicans or Trichomonas vaginalis.
4. Cervicitis
Neisseria gonorrhoeae and C trachomatis are responsible for the majority of cervical infections.
5. Genital Ulcer disease
The most common genital ulceration are chancroid, syphilis, lymphogranuloma venereum and granuloma inguinale. Haemophilus ducreyi is responsivble for chancroid. Treponema pallidum is the agent of syphilis. Chlamydia trachomatis are the agents of lymphogranuloma venereum. Granuloma inguinale is caused by Calmotobacterium granulomatis.
6. Cystitis
Infection of the bladder is caused by Escherichia coli.
7. Asymptomatic infections.
This is caused by asymptomatic bacteriuria.
