Discuss the significance of contracts in the healthcare settings.
Contract
Contract is a promise between two parties, which are legally binding. If violated, the injured part can access legal remedies.
There are different types of contracts. The contracts and their purpose in healthcare settings are:
1.Suicide prevention contract: The aim is to engage patients in preventing suicide.
2.Addiction treatment contract: The aim is to engage patients from developing an addiction.
3.Opiod contract: The aim of the contract is to educate about the medication side effects and to prevent misuse and trafficking of narcotics.
4.Difficult patient contract: The aim is to educate about rules of the healthcare facility and to reduce disruptive patient behavior.
Significance of contracts in the healthcare settings:
1.Doctors and nurses might make mistakes such as failure to diagnose the patient’s condition, surgical error or the deliberate or unintentional disclosure of patient information that could be a violation of a federal law. These might lead to malpractice lawsuits.
2.Contracts are sometimes executed so that the patient-doctor relationship goes on smoothly. This is relevant when a patient has a history of disruptive behavior.
3.A mental health contract can be executed to private the patient from committing suicide.
4.There are contracts that are executed in the case of an organ transplant to communicate information to the patient such as the effects of substance abuse.
5.It provides information about medical side effects of medicines.
