discuss an occupational health nurse’s role in various settings?
Occupation Health Nurse provides and delivers health and safety programs and services to workers, worker populations and community groups for restoration of health, prevention of illness and injury and protection from workplace hazards.
Role of Occupational Health Nurse in various settings are as follows :-
1) Health Promotion and Protection
- Early identifications of chronic health problems and high exposure risk to toxic substances in industries workers by workers' health and hazard assessment and surveillance time to time.
- Nurse works with people who have chronic diabetes to help with medications and blood glucose screening in order to prevent lost work days.
- Developing disease prevention program, such as smoking cessation, exercises and healthy eating program.
2) Primary Care:-
- Work related illness and injuries, emergency care, treatment coordination, follow up , referrals.
3) Disability Management:-
- Early Interventions of disability and return to work program.
4) Counselling :-
- Crisis situation, clarify problems, mental health and EAP referrals
5) Management and Administrative :-
Employee health services, bussiness partner, strategic planning, policy implementation , budget.
6) Research:-
- Collection and documentation of all employees injuries and illness within workplace which help in promoting health and minimizing risk.
