Ans . Neural crest cells are a temporary group of cells unique to vertebrates that arise from embryonic ectoderm germ layer, and in turn give rise to a diverse cell lineage - including melanocytes, craniofacial cartilage and bone ,smooth muscle, peripheral and entric neurons and glia.
HOX genes have been shown to play important role at multiple stages in cNCC( cranial neural crest cells) development including specification , migration, and differentiation .
Neural crest cells originating from different axis levels contribute to distinct tissue derivatives and have an array of umique molecular profiles. these can be classified into multiple population based on their position of origin along the A- P axis. A role of A-P signaling gradients along the developing neuroaxis contributed to different properties and development potential of NCCs in a particular population .
The HOX gene family encodes an evolutionary conserved group of transcription factor that have fundamental roles in regulating axial patterning of diverse tissues in animal development.
