What are the differences in Levoquin, Penicillin, Erythromycin, Doxycycline and their effects on different organisms and give examples?
Ans) Doxycycline and Levaquin are different types of antibiotics. Doxycycline is a tetracycline antibiotic and Levaquin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. Side effects of doxycycline and Levaquin that are similar include diarrhea or loose stools, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
- It is generally safe in those who are allergic to penicillin. Erythromycin also appears to be safe to use during pregnancy. Erythromycin was first isolated in 1952 from the bacteria Saccharopolyspora erythraea.
- Examples of penicillin antibiotics:
penicillin V.
penicillin G (Pfizerpen, Permapen)
amoxicillin (Amoxil)
amoxicillin/clavulonate (Augmentin)
ampicillin (Unasyn)
nafcillin (Nallpen)
oxacillin (Bactocill)
dicloxacillin (Dycill)
- Levaquin is in a class of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones. Other antibiotics in this class of drugs include ciprofloxacin (Cipro), norfloxacin, (Noroxin), ofloxacin (Floxin), trovafloxacin (Trovan), lomefloxacin (Maxaquin), gatifloxacin (Tequin), and moxifloxacin (Avelox).
- Brand names for doxycycline hyclate include Vibramycin, Oracea, Adoxa, Atridox, Acticlate, Acticlate Cap, Doryx, Doxteric, Doxy, Monodox, and others.
