What are some of the primary barriers to the effective implementation of strategies in health care organizations? How can each be overcomed or removed?
Strategies are the long term plans or actions, that are created to enhance the competitive strength and to improve the overall performance, operations and services of the healthcare. It is difficult to implement strategies due to various factors present in the healthcare unit. Some of the factors are:
* Resistance of the staff members and inflexibility of the structure. When staff members are not able to understand the strategic implementation and are not involved in its process, they may resist due to new policies, long working hours and other issues. Inflexibility of the structure also hinders the implementation of Strategic plans, making it ineffective by not providing permissions and delaying the process.
* Financial resources matters when new strategies need to be formulated and implemented. Thus, it is difficult for an healthcare unit to invest a good amount of money for improvising the equipment, machines, and facilities.
* When strategic implementation brings challenges to manage patient's treatment, and quality of care, the management might feel it's not worth to strategies any action.
* Poor information management, economic considerations and efforts from the managers can also impact Strategy implementation.
These factors can be controlled and managed by having an effective communication system, a strong information system, to keep the members of the unit informed and involved in its formulation and execution. The healthcare needs to arrange good amount of finance to bring greater improvements, new and advanced techniques, machines and operational tools to enhance the quality of care and services. Managers must be motivated to put their efforts and promote unity by guiding the staff and understanding the benefits of strategic implementation.
