According to the author, what difficulties do Muslims face when attempting to overcome the problematic issues related to Globalization? How are these issues related to their beliefs as Muslims? Chapter 7 Subverting Greed--Islam
Essentially this themes focuses on how globalization has led change of mindsets and outlook of the youth. A thin line between motivation to perform and greed lies between the bounds of globalization driven by the corporates of today. This needs to be controlled since the inherent motivation to perform should be arising out of other factors than merely greed. Media today plays a very crucial role in the way Muslims have been portrayed in the society as 'dangerous beings' more than anything else. Any incident that revolves around the community is seen from the light of hatred, communalism, prejudice and bias. Thereafter, even in situations that demand a neutral stance or to be looked at with rationality, one tends to be gut-driven and make choices/statements that are eventually biased and colored by this particular lense. This essentially means that globalization and the way corporates function today also tend to have this inherent bias and therefore, even if it is through subtly ways and means, the community tends to suffer and lacks opportunities to flourish/grow. Their worldwise visibility is low due to their dresses, conservatism, and other stereotypes that are now deeply attached to them. Therefore, this visibility is important for no other reason, than for Muslims to take a stand and voice their opinion on the subject along with educating the general public as to what is the basic core and essence of Islam, what it means and what it stands for.
