Abraham Lincoln was born in a poor family and due to that he had to face many challenges throughout his childhood , before becoming president and even after that. He faced problems in his personal life as well as in his professional life after becoming president.
If we see his personal life , he belong to a poor family due to this he could go to school only for 3 years.He lost his mother , Nancy hanes , only when he was 9 years old. He also faced the period of depression which his parents also faced earlier. He faced mental problems , after death of Ann and was depressed even after 2nd battle of Bull Run .He also lost his 2 sons, Eddie and Willie . He faced heart breaking news one after other which effect his mental status.Due to this continuous mental problems , he faced many changes like fatigue , feeling of being worthless and also had thoughts to suicide. After long time, he overcome this depression.
He failed in elections 8 times , got bankrupt in business 2 times and also faced the depression phase.
He didn't got many opportunities in his life in early phase. He faced many failures when he went for the post of speaker or state legislature.He has strong opposition about slavery , so when he was selected as President , many states who follow slavery became sad. They were not happy with his success.
One of the main problem he faced was to keep the union jointly. Just after he became president , some states in southern part, break away to make confederacy. This effected the integrity and made it more difficult for Abraham to unite the union.
Lincoln faced another problem at the time of civil war.It was not concerned only about winning from southern military forces , but to incorporate them into union after winning the war.It was a tough job to do.
He faced the following challenges throughout his life which effected his mental status.
1) His family become homeless in 1816 and he had to work to help them.
2) He lost his mother in 1818. This was a big shock for him.
3) 1832 he lost his job and was defeated for the post in state legislature
4) In 1833 , he started a business by taking financial help from his friend but unfortunately his had a failure and he faced 17 tough years to pay off the money to his friend.
5) In 1835 , he lost his sweetheart 'Ann' and he went into depression and had mental problems in 1836 and was on bed rest for 6 months.
6) In 1838, he was defeated for the post of speaker.
7) In 1840 , he again faced failure when he went for elector.
8)In 1843 , he went for Congress but could not win.
9) In 1849, he was not elected for land officer.
10) In 1854 & 1958 , both years he could not win for Us senate.
11) In 1856, he was not selected for nominee of Vice President as he cannot even get 100 votes.
So , these are the challenges which Abraham Lincoln faced in his personal and professional life.
