(1) Do we have a moral obligation to protect the environment? Why? What are two views that try to explain the source of this obligation? Which one, if any is correct? What are some of the issues facing the environment? What are some of Bowie’s main claims involving corporations and the environment? Is he correct? Why or why not?
The word obligation means duty or commitment, and be it any of the two we do have an obligation to protect the environment. Our environment gives us elements of life effortlessly, or does it? It is one thing to give birth to a better environment and other thing to nurture it and maintain it. It is nothing complicated and is just simple science. If environment is what protects us, and we destroy the environment, how can the environment protect us anymore? Examples would be industrialization, deforestation, air pollution, water pollution, global warming and many many more phenomenon that destroy oxygen, ozone layer etc. Causing of greenhouse effect, melting of glaciers, increase in CO, CO2, SO2 etc. It is humans who destroy the environment and it is humans who can save the environment. According to Bowie article, Do businesses have an obligation to protect the environment beyond simply following the laws? Yes and No. No, businesses do not have a duty to protect the environment beyond simply following the laws. And yes, businesses should not try and influence regulations that protect the environment. And honestly no, following the laws is not enough as laws can be smartly tackled or pushed beyond the edge just to meet business's self goals. Yes, Businesses do not have an obligation to produce environmentally friendly products, if not legally then morally. Because businesses produce on a large scale and thus will affect consequences of usage by people by a heavy quantum.
