(Answer) DuBois and Booker T. Washington would generally agree on several issues. However, both the reformers disagreed on the strategies to be implemented on how the education system could be fixed, especially for the racial minorities.
DuBois basically proposed that if the education system would have to be fixed, the elite of the society would have to responsibly use their platform and contribute their resources in order to fix the system.
Booker Washington on the other hand, was a self-help advocate who urged his fellow African-Americans to accept the discrimination temporarily, while they would have to work very hard to uplift themselves and improve their social and economic status.
The major difference between these thinkers was that DuBois believed that the power of the “haves” came with a responsibility towards the “have-nots.” Conversely, Washington believed in each individual working to improve themselves.
Although both thinkers seem to have viable perspectives, the real question can be answered only after going through the education system. After finishing university, it is evident that the higher quality educational institutes and facilities are designed to be accessible mostly to the elite of the society. Even though it is possible to work hard and achieve those facilities, it should be something that is accessible to all individuals with merit and not just the elite.
In order to fix any education system, the individual with the charge to fix it and the individuals with the resources to fix it would have a professional and social responsibility to do something about it. This is the obligation that we have towards our education system.
