discuss the importance of correct confidence interval determination on the accuracy of research study findings.

Solutions

Expert Solution

The confidence interval is used to detrmine the amount of accuracy that is there in any calculation result, it is mostly used in prediction and approximation cases where there is some amount of uncertainity is involved in the process. It is the plus or minus figure that has to be added with the calculated result to denote the uncertainity. It is very important to correctly calculate the confidence interval, especially in the reseach study findinds, where there is a large amount of critical data is involved in the process. A little error even in the form of small fractional values may cause havoc if interpreted correctly in cases such as nuclear and biological researches, medical science, radio science, etc.

Correct confidence interval on the other hand may benefit a lot as we come to know about the amount of deviation that can occur in any particular quantity and thus we will get prepared for the same.

1. Point vs. Interval Estimation Here you will discuss the importance of constructing confidence intervals for the population mean. You want to be sure to address these questions: What are confidence intervals? What is a point estimate? What is the best point estimate for the population mean? Explain why it is the best. Why do we need confidence intervals? 2. Mean Estimation First clearly give the best point estimate  for the population mean the data was drawn from. Next you...

Include a discussion of: (a) the impact changing the sample size has on the calculation of the CIE holding all other variables constant. (Discuss how the CIE will change as the sample size "n" changes and WHY); (b) the impact of changing the level of confidence on the CIE holding all other variables constant. (Discuss how the CIE will change as the confidence level changes and WHY.).
