Which of the following will not occur when light moves
from air to glass?
Select one:
a. Reflection
b. Total internal reflection
c. Refraction
a) when waves of any type strike the interface between two optical materials, new waves are generated which move away from the barrier. this is the incident of reflection.
so, here, some portion of the incident ray can easily be reflected back to air from that interface of air and glass.
c) when light passes from one medium(air) to another(glass), some part is reflected back into the first medium and the rest passes into the second medium. when it passes into the second medium, its direction of travel is changed. this is the incident of reflection.
so, here, refraction is also happen.
b) but in case of T.I.R., the light ray must be travelled from denser(glass) medium to rare medium (air) (according to the principle of refraction, which I am not going to discuss in this mcq qsn; if you don't know about T.I.R., then please let me know, I'll make you able to understand this principle in the comment section).
so, when light moves from air to glass, T.I.R can never be occured (untill the air becomes more denser to glass; and which is almost impossible till now).
so, correct option is (b)
if you are satisfied with my ans., please give me your valuable feedback. and having any ddoubt(s), please mention it in the comment section. thank you.
