When a ray of light travels from water to glass then
its frequency
Select one:
a. Increases
b. Remains constant
c. Decreases
The density of the material affects the speed of light wave. If the light travels in the medium of refractive index n, its speed in that medium is given by,
where, c is the speed of light in space.
The density of the material also affects the wavelengh of light wave. If the light travels in the medium of refrcatice index n, its wavelength in that medium is given by,
where, is the wavelength in free space.
We know the relation between the frequency (f), wavelength () and speed of wave and it is given by,
so if f0 is frequency in free space, then
If f' is the frequency in medium of refractive index n, them
so we can see that f'=f ie if light is travels from one medium to another medium, only its speed and wavelength gets decreased. Its frequency reamains the same (constant).
So when light travels from water to glass, then also its frequency remains constant.
