What role do consumers play in the counterfeit products market? Are consumers ultimately responsible?
Ans- Counterfeit products are such products which resemble original products and are often inferior in quality, produced and sold using another brand name without taking permission of original brand owner. In counterfeit products seller breach the law regarding copyright, patent, or trademark.
In counterfeit product market consumers play various roles as they may purchase such products knowingly or they may purchase in belief that they are purchasing original product. Reasons behind this multifaceted role are their ignorance or their pompous nature. For this nature of consumers counterfeit products market is flourishing across the globe.
Consumers are responsible for this counterfeit products market at some extent as:
• As consumer's unethical mindset contribute considerably in this. People have greed to obtain and utilize the products in lesser price so they tend to get those anyhow, and can use illegal ways. For e.g. People know that normally they can't afford iPhone, so they use some tricks to get the same. So, they are responsible to promote such parallel market.
• Sometimes consumers unknowingly trapped in some deceitful producers who produces such imitated/ counterfeit products. In this consumers are responsible, as they before purchasing that should do proper research/ homework.
So, I can say in flourishing counterfeit products market consumers are also responsible at some extent.
