importance of Critical Examination of Utilitarianism as a Moral Principle.
Utilitarianism is a model theory of normative ethical theory. The the theory of utilitarianism is based on the consequences of an action. It says that if the consequences are good then from moral point of view the action can be supported. Many decisions in the field of politics, economics and society are taken that may oppose the conventional social norms. But these decisions may be good and the consequences may not hamper the the wellbeing of others. In such cases the decision can be supported from the utilitarianism theory as it is a morally sound.
Bentham says that the action that benefits many people must be morally correct. It may be the violation of apparent morality and it may hamper the the self interest of few person. But if it offers benefit to the maximum people then the action is morally correct from the perspective of the utilitarianism theory. We find the use of this in the Trolley Problem Theory.
Stuart Mill says that action that makes happy maximum number of people is always morally supported. With the help of the utility theory one must seek the greatest happiness principle. It is the greatest happiness of the greatest number of people.
