A lot of research has been done about the importance of exposing children to classical music because it causes their cerebellum to be larger. In terms of academia, I think for some people listening to music will make a difference in the test scores, however, I also wonder if the type of music will impact the results not just the volume. If you were to actually conduct this study, which research design would you use?
Purpose of the Study - The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of music participation on academic achievement. Conclusions were drawn based on the analysis of data to determine the long-term impact that music.
What is the impact of participation in music education on academic achievement?
For example, using information from the National Center for Educational Statistics, Morrison (1994) reported that on a sample size of 13,327 high school sophomores those who participated in music reported higher grades in English, math, history, and science than those who did not participate in music.
Researchers had previously shown that adult musicians who received musical training before the age of 12 had a better memory for spoken words than those without musical training
Hypothesis:- differences between the mean scores of the two groups(academic performance with and without music)
Variables such as gender or race, high school GPA, years studied or planned to study in mathematics and natural sciences, rank in high school graduating class.
Design:-
The music training activity can be designed for inner city students who could not financially afford to take music lessons. Results has positive effect of the music program on the students’ achievement levels
Increasingly higher standards in research design and statistical analysis are called for. Larger sample sizes, random assignment of subjects to treatment groups, and longer treatment periods can be taken.
Data Collection the effects of instrumental music instruction on standardized test performance of third-grade students. Students were divided into two groups: those participating in an instrumental music training program and those not participating.
The children can be placed into three groups:
Data can be collected for all the variables.
