4 spores
Spores are produced during the life cycle of lower plants are cryptogams comprising algae ,fungi etc. They are most conspicuous in the non-seed-bearing plants, including liverworts, hornworts, mosses, and ferns. In these lower plants, as in fungi, the spores function much like seeds. In general, the parent plant sheds the spores locally; the spore-generating organs are frequently located on the undersides of leaves. Lower plants produce single celled spore.Bacteria, fungi and lower plants survive in adverse conditions through formation of thick walled spores. Algae form resting spore or akinetes which are thick walled spores and store food material. In fungi, thick walled perennating spores called chlamydospores are formed.
