How would you explain the “Duty of Care” of the Design Engineer to a marketing executive, or to a legal representative, or to a business manager? Is there one explanation that all could understand and agree?

Q2: Why is it important to follow the Engineers Australia Code of Ethics in your engineering design work? Is there less need to abide by the Engineers Australia Code of Ethics if you are not a member of Engineers Australia?

1. The prime motto of a design Engineer is the safety, serviceability and reliability of a corresponding structure. Apart from the economical design, being a responsible design Engineer, it is the liability of the design engineer to assure adequate safety in the designed structure.

Any Design Engineer should keep in view of the code "Duty of Care" and promote that agenda to fellow legal representative by a taking a generalized fact that -

"If a Doctor committes a mistake, a patient will be the victim and sufferer.

If a Judge committes a mistake, certain section / community will be effected.

But, If an Engineer committes any mistake, entire society will be adversely affected."

By keeping in view of above regards, every individual should take their responsibility in executing the safety in work for each step and care about the commuters/ accomodaters / other service persons should be remainded as their daily duty.

Engineers Australia play a prominent role in shaping the skill full engineers to the society by abiding and following the code of conduct and rules in work.

As Engineers Australia reviews the safety and Reliability in design, the basic norms are quite essential for any code of practice in works for design in engineering practice.

One may be / may not be the member of Engineers Australia, but, being a responsible citizen in this country should obey the professional ethics, which are indulged as a part of syllabus by Engineers Australia.
