Choosing a career is not an easy decision,it is a game- changer of your life. Some selects a profession because of passion to it and strongly believe that they have the amiable qualities to be a part of it ,for others it is just fullfilling parental decision or ambition .Some choose their career based on their job prospects. So whatever be the reasons, life's sudden turn over sometimes forces us to make sudden decisions .Sometimes it works ,for others it would be a ghastly fall.
Now i am a graduate nurse ,with 5 years of clinical experience, but a few years back the scenario was a bit different.I was born and brought up in a middle classs family.I could remember my mother telling me that ,since childhood i was quite fearful to hospitals, paramedics and mostly dreaded injections.I dreaded everyone in the health care .i had a sweet tooth and loved sweets more than anything and as a result my tooth has to suffer. So i was often taken to dentist for taking care of my caries. Before even they start the procedure i make it a hell -over place with my shrieks and at most times a huge number of nurses surrounds me and try to comfort me.And i just hated them all.i feared even the small pricks and fevoured with the thought of going to hospitals. But things changed when i turned 15.
It was my last year at high school and one of the most important year ,as the public exams will begin within a few months. We were all studying hard ,as this was the crucial time which ultimately decides your profession in future.I loved Organic chemistry ,so i was planning to go for a Bachelors in Chemistry, then,MSc and finally PHd then will start working as a professor in a college. That was my plan,But God had other plans for me.One fine day i got up from my bed with severe abdominal pain ,vomiting and fever.I was taken to the hospital.Afterconsulting me the doctor came up with the diagnosis that i am having Appendicitis and need immediate medical attention. So i was admitted in the hospital ,my mother had to go back home to arrange the money. The Doctor didnot allow me to go with my mother,as my condition was deteriorating and charged my care to a Nurse in the surgical department.I was so frightened.I could still remember her face. She was a kind young lady with an angelic face.I have been introduced to other nurses ,they were all were friendly. They consoled me .When my mother came back she was amazed that i was not crying ,instead seemed quite cheerful. On the day of discharge i cried a lot,for having to leave them. They have made a lasting impression on my mind.
Confusion crept into my mind i was not able to decide which profession do i need to choose.I passed my final year from highschool and Higher Secondary with flying colours .I scored high marks in Science subjects especially chemistry.By that time i was so engrosssed in nursing, that i finally made the decision to move with that.I enjoyed each and every day during my training periods.I got some wonderful colleagues and seniors who helped i realizing my dream.I love spending time with the patients, giving care to them.
My career began steadily ,and my roles changed.I began accepting each appreciation and negatives ,correcting my follys. When i turn back to the past.I have no regrets. But the path to the profession was not easy. Overcoming each obstacles and tackling challenges was tough.Quality and safe effective care has always been my motto.
