What are some interventions that can be used in working with a military sexual assault survivor?
The first thing to do with military sexual assault victims is that it’s not their fault. They were forced to do what they didn’t like to do. So, encouraging them to shed their fear and guilty feeling will help them a lot recompose themselves.
Second thing to do is to create a supportive environment with the help of the friends and family. This will bring back the lost smile on their faces by acknowledging that they are not alone and they have many people to support them.
Thirdly, helping them overcoming their suicidal tendencies by involving them in active sports and exercise programs. Helping them identify their interest area and engage them in it would relax them.
Finally, engaging them in some kind of social work such as working in aged homes, orphanages etc. will help them look at more disadvantaged group of people thus it would help them get their confidence back.
