Critical evaluation
Mcdonald’s most dangerous impact on the environment is global warming resulting from greenhouse gas emissions. Methane gas emitting from cattle dung is a major contributor of global warming dung gas is 55-65% methane, 30-35% carbon dioxide. About 28 times more powerful than carbon dioxide at warming the Earth. Since the Industrial Revolution, methane concentrations in the atmosphere have more than doubled. Mcdonald’s, as one of the world’s largest buyer of beef, is using 350000 cattle a year. With so many cows farting all day, they could produce a considerable amount of greenhouse gas. In the UK for example, 4% of the carbon emissions are the gas emitted by livestock .
Trees in the rainforest are cut down for agricultural to grow grain for the livestock and poultry.
Packaging waste is another source environmental problem . According to a survey in England, 29% of the litter on streets is the wrappers and cups from mcdonald’s. And other mcdonald’s: a wrapper for burger, a box for fries, a cup for drinks with a lid and a straw, napkins, and a bag .
Societal issues including childhood obesity, low wages and animal treatment.
The good news for public health advocates: In 2016, none of the chains’ websites listed sugary soda and other soft drinks on the kids’ menu. And online, they had all added at least one healthier drink to their kids' menus, such as juice, water or low-fat milk, and at least one healthier side dish, such as fresh fruit or yogurt.
The fast food giant wants to have 100% of its customer packaging come from renewable, recycled, or certified sources and have recycling available in all its restaurants.Currently, 50% of its guest packaging comes from sustainable sources and only 10% of its restaurants are recycling.
Sustainability policies for healthy family is satisfactory.but more attention pay to the environment sustainability. To make sure purchases meat from a sustainable sources, they may create a code of conduct on how it selecting suppliers. Being strict on choosing suppliers that contribute less to greenhouse gases and deforestation would help mcdonald’s reducing its impact on global warming and environment sustainability
