The supply chain is the system of people, organizations,
resources, information and activities involved in the supplying of
the product or services to the consumer. The supply chain
activities also involve the transformation of the resources such
as, raw material, natural resources and other components to a
finished good which is delivered to the customers which come at the
end of the supply chain of any commodity. The toxic waste,
deforestation, water pollution, loss of biodiversity, hazardous
emissions in the air, long term damages to the ecosystem, emission
of greenhouse gases and the energy use are the environmental
impacts of the supply chain.
Reduce, reuse and recycle are the elements of reducing carbon
footprints for the companies. Purchasing recycled paper,
refurbished IT equipment and phones are the ways to reduce the
carbon footprints of the businesses. Using more of the recycled
things and also process the wastage of the businesses to recycled
things can reduce their problems with the carbon footprint.
Many regulations have been made on the industries for pollution
control. The industries using chimneys for air emissions need to
put filters and filter the emission before releasing them in the
environment. The industries which emit the waste in water bodies
have to set up a plant for purifying the waste and then release it
in the water bodies. Small scale industries use solar energy to use
it for the purpose.
The transportation industry is greatly responsible for carbon
footprint as it generates the largest share of greenhouse gas
emission in the environment. Use of Eco-driving, the optimal
driving techniques will help the transportation industry cut the
gas emissions and save more money in the gasoline-powdered cars.
Using hard accelerations and braking systems of the fuel or
electric cars waste more of the fuel and decrease the mileage of
the transport by around 33 to 35 percent on the national highways
and around 5 to 7 percent inside the town. Using Eco-friendly
transports lowers the impacts and wastage of gases by reducing the
time of the transport that is spent idle, and using cruise control
and overdriving. Normal fuel transports, for every 5 miles per hour
drive about 60 miles per hour, which lowers the fuel by 7 to 9
percent. A properly maintained vehicle can improve the gas mileage
and fuel wastage by 5 percent. The eco-friendly vehicles lower down
the maintenance rate on it and also the emission of greenhouse
gases.
