Solutions

Expert Solution

The Constitution divided the Government into three divisions: the legislative, executive and judicial divisions. This was an significant decision, since it gave each branch different powers and created something called checks and balances. Just like the phrase sounds, the object of checks and balances was to ensure that no one branch could exert too much power, and this provided a separation of powers.

The legislative branch makes laws, but with a Presidential Veto, the President in the executive branch may veto those laws The legislative branch creates legislation so certain legislation may be declared unconstitutional by the judicial branch. The executive branch is responsible for day-to-day implementation and administration of Federal laws by the Federal agencies. Many Federal departments and agencies have widely varying missions and duties, from protecting the environment to defending the borders of the Country. The President in the executive branch may veto a rule, but with ample votes, the legislative branch may override the veto.

The branch of the executive can issue executive orders, which are like proclamations that bear the force of law, but the branch of the judiciary can issue such acts unlawful. The judicial branch interprets rules, but the President nominates the judges of the Supreme Court, the judges of the appeals court, and the judges of the circuit court that render the decisions. The judicial branch interprets rules, but the Senate in the legislative branch approves the appointments of the President for judicial positions, and Congress may impeach and expel any of those judges from office.
