Your assignment is to compute how big a square solar collector would have to be in order to provide power to

(1)       all the residents of the UAE

(2)        all the people of the world.

The power supplied should be equal to the current per capita consumption of the UAE. Assume that all the energy is to be supplied in the form of electricity.

In this assignment, you must specify the sources of all data you used in order to compute your answer.

For example some data you may need include:

  • Population of the UAE and the world for the year 2018
  • Per capita consumption of energy in the UAE (  current value )
  • Average amount of electric power produced per square meter.

Grading:

Report all sources of data  --

Units clearly expressed in all calculations

At what orbital radius would a planet in our solar system have to be to enjoy “Earth-like” temperatures and conditions when the Sun arrives at the tip of its Red Giant “branch” (about 5 billion years hence). Compare your answer to the present orbital radius of Pluto. Assume that the orbit of earth is circular around the sun.

Use the inverse square law to estimate how the brightness of the Sun would change if you moved from Earth at 1 AU to Saturn's location at 10 AU (i.e., give a fraction or percentage, not magnitude). Then, the brightest known star is R136a1 with an absolute magnitude of -12.5, explain why you cannot make a precise determination of its brightness as seen from Earth without more information
