In week 3, you were asked to identify and discuss the most obvious social determinants of health that affect your community- and to discuss how could public policy help this. Based on this weeks reading(s), revisit your discussion post, and build upon your original points/arguments in a meaningful way using 3-4 points from this week's readings. Do you still agree with your original statements? Why or why not?
The social determinants such as money, power and other resources determine the availability of quality health care to the people.Efforts are taken to address the issue globally. An integrated approach should be taken at the community level ,so that no one is denied of from health opportunities whatever the determinants be.Some of the social determinants such as poverty, illiteracy, social stigma and racism are the profound factors which prevents the people from getting equal health opportunities resulting in health disparityPublic policies like the health organizations such as National Center for HIV\AIDS,Viral hepatitis,STD and TB prevention(NCHHSTP) can help reduce the health disparities to an extent by encouraging health sectors to look beyond the behavioural factors and meet the major factors related to social determinants of health of HIV.
Yes,because there is a relationship between structural variables and individuals, and targeted interventions should be taken to prevent the social determinants from hindering people getting adequate health care services.NCHHSTP main goal is to identify future goals and prioritize in decreasing health inequalities and to address the factors that increase the risk of HIV and it has work groups that deals with corrections. One of the main aim of NCHHSTP is to eliminate health inequalities due to social determinants of health.
